Course content
The discipline provides basic information on the principles of classification and nomenclature of precious stones, features of the physical properties of precious and semiprecious stones; there is an acquaintance with the basic methods of improvement and synthesis of gems, kinds and types of their processing; a systematic overview of the most common imitations of precious and semi-precious stones is given.
Recommended or required reading and other learning resources/tools
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, consultations, personal independent student work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The results of students' learning activities are evaluated on a 100-point scale. Semester assessment: - two written tests (max 10 points / min 6 points each) - five oral presentations and accompanying written theses (max 12 points / min 7 points each) Final assessment - credit (max 20 points / min 12 points). Final evaluation in the form of credit is not mandatory, if you refuse to participate in this form of evaluation, the student will not receive the appropriate points for the final evaluation. A student is not allowed to take the final grade in the form of a test if he scored less than 40 points during the semester. Final grade (max 100 / min 60) = semester grade (max 80 / min 48) + credit (max 20 / min 12)
