Learning outcomes
- to get acquainted with the terminological apparatus of magnetometry; - provide physical-mathematical and geological bases of magnetometry; - explain the main factors of the magnetic field; - to characterize the general principles of construction of modern laboratory and field magnetometric equipment and methods of laboratory and field work; - acquisition by students of necessary methodological knowledge on processing of magnetometric information, methods of qualitative and quantitative interpretation; - mastering by students of basic knowledge on the use of magnetometric research to solve geological, geophysical, engineering and environmental problems; - acquaintance with the basic principles of complexing magnetometry with other geophysical methods.
Form of study
Full-time form
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of theoretical foundations of physics, mathematics, field theory, mathematical statistics
Course content
The program of the discipline focuses on applied magnetometry, as well as the principles of structure of instruments and methods of measuring work, their primary processing and selection of magnetic field anomalies. Methods of qualitative and quantitative interpretation on theoretical and field anomalies are studied. Approaches to solving direct and inverse problems are considered. Areas of application of magnetometry on real examples are characterized. The review includes general principles of setting magnetometric problems, an overview of ways to implement them and efficiency.
Recommended or required reading and other learning resources/tools
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures, laboratory classes and independent work of students
Assessment methods and criteria
The control is carried out according to the modular rating system and includes: performing laboratory work (where students must demonstrate the quality of acquired knowledge and solve problems using the methods and tools outlined by the teacher) and conducting 3 written modular tests. The final assessment is conducted in the form of a written exam.
