Learning outcomes
Know: the essence and main approaches to urban space regeneration; features of regeneration of different types of urban space – former industrial spaces, coastal areas, areas of mass housing development; prerequisites and possible consequences of implementing mega-events as drivers of urban regeneration; theoretical foundations and practical examples of the relationship between gentrification and urban regeneration, etc. Be able to: identify, formulate and solve problems of inefficient use of urban space; assess the significance and identify features of urban regeneration projects in Ukraine taking into account world experience; develop and defend urban regeneration projects

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful study of the mandatory academic disciplines "Methods of Urban Research", "Theory and Practice of Planning", "Introduction to Urban Planning", "Urban Land Use Planning and Land Assessment", as well as disciplines from the elective block "Urban Geography" "Urbolaboratory 1: Spatial Analysis" and "Urbolaboratory 2. Urban Design". 2. Successful completion of educational practices on methods of acquiring and processing geographic information. 3. Possession of skills to work in a specialized software environment.
Course content
This course is designed to introduce students to key theoretical perspectives on urban regeneration and examples of how these theories influence and explain the practice of urban regeneration, to provide a deeper understanding of the factors that lead to urban decline, approaches to urban regeneration policies, the development of relevant programs and projects, and the conflicts that may arise during their implementation. Different types of urban areas are considered - former industrial spaces (brownfields), coastal areas, areas of mass housing development, as well as the impact of mega-events on urban regeneration and its connection with gentrification. Teaching is carried out through the consideration of specific cases of urban regeneration projects, which allows understanding the features and problematic aspects, in particular the socio-cultural, political and economic aspects of urban regeneration, the interaction of various stakeholders. It is expected to carry out a group project on the regeneration of a selected area of ​​the city and write a term paper.

Assessment methods and criteria
The course includes 2 content parts. Classes are held in the form of lectures and practical classes. The discipline ends with a written exam. Semester assessment: the number of points that a student receives during the semester is the sum of the points that were obtained when evaluating work in practical classes, performing thematic test work, writing and defending a course paper. Assessment organization: Work in practical classes is assessed based on the results of performance, in accordance with the schedule of practical classes. Thematic tests are conducted in a written format. Learning outcomes, provided they are mastered at the appropriate level, are assessed as follows: 1. Verification and defense of practical work, including a group project on the regeneration of a selected area of ​​the city - from 20 to 30 points. 2. Thematic test work - from 6 to 10 points. 3. Writing and defense of a course paper - from 10 to 20 points.
