Learning outcomes
Know: the essence of the concept and factors of development of the concept of sustainable development; the relationship between social, environmental and economic components of sustainable development; problems of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in countries and regions; features of sustainable development of sectors of the economy, society, management, environmental protection activities. Be able to: analyze information on the sustainable development of countries and regions; identify and organize the problems of sustainable development of cities according to their severity; identify the potential of countries and regions to transition to a sustainable development trajectory; develop proposals for overcoming sustainable development problems, etc.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) successful mastering of the courses “Social Geography”, “Economic Geography”, “Social Geography”, “Biogeographic and Soil Research”, “Meteorological and Hydrological Research”, “Philosophy”. 2) knowledge of the general patterns of development of natural and anthropogenic systems, their interdependence through knowledge and understanding of the structure and features of the functioning of social production, social systems in the context of modern global challenges. 3) ability to work with information sources containing data on the development of natural, social, economic, and managerial processes of various spatial and temporal scales, to analyze the features of the course of these processes in the geographical envelope, to identify disparities and inconsistencies, to draw conclusions about the results obtained.
Course content
The essence of the concept of sustainable development in the context of its provision at the regional and local levels, the system of Sustainable Development Goals, as well as the problem of its implementation in cities are outlined. The mechanisms for restoring the balance of natural systems are revealed with an emphasis on solving the problems of biodiversity, climate change and environmental pollution, the institutional aspects of ensuring sustainable development of regions in the light of the global, European and Ukrainian contexts are highlighted. The features of ensuring sustainable development of urban settlements of various functional types, including nature reserves and territories with significant anthropogenic load, mono- and poly-functional cities are highlighted.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Assessment methods and criteria
The course includes 2 content parts. Classes are held in the form of lectures and seminars. The discipline ends with a test. During the semester, thematic tests are held in the form of tests after completing the consideration of the relevant topics. The acquisition of knowledge and skills by students is also assessed during presentations at seminars, surveys, consideration of cases, and participation in discussions. For students who have not scored the minimum number of points during the semester (60 points), a final semester test is held with a maximum number of points - 40. Before the start of the test session, students must complete all seminar classes. A final assessment is not conducted and the student receives a grade according to the performance of the main types of work during the semester.
