Learning outcomes
To understand the concepts and components of the European system of human rights protection, main international European documents on human rights, the activities of the main institutions of the Council of Europe in the field of human rights protection and the main treaties of the Council of Europe on human rights, basics of the European Court of Human Rights, powers and jurisdiction, the procedure of the European Court, human rights protection in the EU, the legal relations of Ukraine with the European Union, human rights protection in the OSCE; to be able to analyse the main European human rights treaties, analyse and assess the specific situation in the field of human rights in terms of European standards and existing human rights mechanisms within the European human rights system, identify features and effectiveness of human rights protection by the European Court of Human Rights, analyse the ECtHR case law, understand how to apply to the ECtHR
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the International public law; case-law of the International courts, find the legal positions and interpretations, ability to analyze and compare international legal standards with national law; ability to apply knowledge and skills to solve practical problems, ability to apply knowledge and skills acquired in the study of disciplines of theoretical, professional and practical training, including "Public International Law", "Law of International Organizations", "Council of Europe Law", " EU Law" etc; knowledge of a foreign language and special terminology for studying and analysing ECtHR decisions, international legal documents.

Thematic plan of the discipline: 1. Human rights in Europe: the concept, nature and historical development 2. European system of human rights protection. General characteristics 3. Protection of human rights within the Council of Europe 4. European Convention on Human Rights and the jurisdiction of the ECtHR 5. Proceedings before the European Court of Human Rights 6. The execution of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights 7. Overview of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights versus Ukraine 8. European Social Charter as the main treaty for the protection of socio-economic rights in Europe 9. Protection of human rights in the EU 10. Protection of human rights within the OSCE 11. Implementation of European human rights standards in Ukraine

Assessment methods and criteria
Evaluation is carried out according to the modular rating system. Assessment of students' knowledge is carried out by current control, and the final result of the student's work during the semester is evaluated on a 100-point scale. Current control: answers and presentations (up to 40 points), written analytical individual and group tasks, case studies (up to 40 points), final modular test (up to 20 points). The credit is set based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester.
