Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify different trends and schools in Linguistics. PLO 8. To assess the historical legacy and new achievements of Literature Studies. PLO 9. To characterize theoretical principles (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of the chosen linguistic specialization. PLO 10. To collect and systematize facts of language and literature, to interpret and translate texts of various styles and genres (depending on the chosen specialization). PLO 11. To carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, formulate generalizations based on independently processed data.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the fundamentals of linguistics and translation studies, proficiency in written and oral translation skills, and German language proficiency at a level not lower than C1.1.
Course content
The course is a mandatory component of the training cycle for modern translators and cultural mediators. Its aim is to familiarize students with the main theories in the field of translation studies and their application in practical professional and research activities. The discipline provides a broad view of the phenomenon of translation and its critique, covering various aspects from translation stages and procedures to the social roles in the translation field and possible manipulative functions of translation critique. The main focus is on the works and theories of contemporary German and English-speaking translation scholars, developing students' skills in working with foreign-language scientific texts and cultivating a critical understanding of scholarly works. Each theory is tested through the analysis of practical material.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Lectures - 16 hours, practical sessions - 18 hours, self-study - 86 hours.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: Module test - 2 tests, each worth 10 points = 20 points Presentation - 2 presentations, each worth 10 points = 20 points Oral responses during oral questioning in lectures and practical sessions (based on homework preparation), participation in discussions - 20 points Maximum score for ongoing assessment - 60 points Minimum score for ongoing assessment - 36 points Final assessment: The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: Maximum score for the exam - 40 points, minimum passing score - 24 points (60% of the maximum exam score). The exam evaluates all the expected learning outcomes. The exam consists of a written section with open-ended questions covering theoretical and practical aspects (maximum 20 points), and an oral section with a response to 1 theoretical question (maximum 20 points).
