Learning outcomes
Achievements by postgraduate students of such competencies as:
coherent and reasoned formulation and expression of their research views, correct use of references to the publications of other researchers from the standpoint of academic integrity, conducting a scientific discussion with the international scientific community in writing in English;
writing English texts of various genres within the scientific discourse, namely annotations and scientific articles, taking into account the peculiarities of their structural and compositional parts;
design of citations and references in accordance with the main international standards.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know the language forms and grammatical constructions necessary for understanding and speaking in the legal field; have a wide range of vocabulary of legal vocabulary.
2. Be able to work with literature in English to obtain professionally relevant information and its further use; use the studied material in prepared and spontaneous oral and written speech; use the terminological stock of relevant branches of law in communication (oral and written); define various concepts and branches of law; use programs within the standard software for projects / presentations;
3. Have the skills to determine the main idea, logical structure and important details of textual and oral information; obtaining information from other sources and using them for educational purposes; be able to organize teamwork during the preparation of presentations and other joint projects.
Course content
The course introduces postgraduate students and applicants to the practice of academic writing in English. The course aims at developing the knowledge and practical skills needed to write research texts of various genres. According to the results of the course, postgraduate students and applicants will be able to:
● coherently formulate an opinion in research texts;
● operate with general research vocabulary;
● use grammatical structures specific for academic style;
● structure a research text (divide the text into paragraphs / sections);
● develop skills of paraphrasing, formulating abstracts and making references;
● improve the skills of writing research texts of various genres;
● demonstrate the results of their own research in English at the international level.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Practical classes with the use of video, audio and other digital materials and simulations of the legal language environment
Assessment methods and criteria
Forms of assessment vary depending on the objectives and the aim of each topic. The selection of the types of a mid-term assessment is to the discretion of the teacher who is conducting practical classes; they enclose: an individual task report, a written task, a presentation or an individual project, a mid-term test, a final test. The teacher gives a certain amount of points earned through mid-term assessment, which gets fixed in the register of an academic progress. If students miss the class for valid reason, they can made it up in free from classes time (during teacher’s scheduled consultation hours) by participation in a discussion, зукащкьфтсу of a writing task or by other forms of assessment. It is not allowed to make up the missed classes starting from 5 days prior examination period.
