The objectives of the course are aimed at forming the following competencies: to present the research on various aspects of processing and protection of personal data, using primary sources and techniques of legal interpretation of complex issues arising from the research, to reason conclusions; to develop and teach special courses that cover the problems of personal data protection in educational institutions, to apply modern educational technologies and teaching methods.

External form

Prerequisites for mastering the course: 1. Know the basic principles of personal data processing under the laws of Ukraine and the European Union; the subject of Ukraine's positive and negative obligations under Article 8 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, the main provisions of the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data. 2. Be able to identify and analyze the tasks of legal regulation of public relations in the field of processing and protection of personal data. 3. Have basic skills in drafting legal documents, taking into account the peculiarities of the practical situation and with the help of legal methods to resolve disputes related to the improper processing of personal data.

"Personal Data Protection" course is part of the cycle of professional training of specialists of "Master" educational level in "Law", educational program "Intellectual Property" at the Education and Research Law School of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The main components of the course are aimed at providing students with knowledge on the concepts, types, grounds and procedures of personal data processing; the procedure for supervision and control over compliance with the legislation on personal data protection; legal bases of personal data processing in the activity of police, health care, telecommunications, migration procedures; legal status of personal data subjects, owners and administrators of personal data; formation of skills to correctly interpret the content of national and international law in the field of personal data protection; ensuring information security in the field of registers designed for personal data processing.

The study of the course includes lectures and practical classes; express survey/testing/essay (abstract) on the proposed topic; module tests; independent work of students in preparation for seminars; exam.

Types of ongoing performance evaluation can be: solving practical cases, short surveys, reports, preparation of draft individual or legal acts, module tests, intermediate evaluation. With the current type of evaluation during the seminars, the following should be assessed: the level of knowledge demonstrated by a student in their answers, readiness to discuss the issues of the seminar, regular work in the classroom, the results of homework completion. The course takes two semesters. 10 days before the beginning of the session, the teacher who conducts the seminars stops having interviews with students who missed assignments. For students who have not reached the minimum level of assessment, a final test is conducted.
