Such students’ academic achievements as: knowledge of basic theoretical legal approaches and system of sources of law in general, system of sources of criminal law of Ukraine; application peculiarities of norms of criminal law considering constitutional and international legal norms. Skills: to use the acquired knowledge in the application of criminal law, provided by various sources, as well as to formulate advises to improve the content of relevant sources of criminal law. Communication: to participate in professional discussions concerning the sources of criminal law. Autonomy and responsibility: to study independently the problems of sources of criminal law.

The course "Sources of Criminal Law" provides students with basic principles and problems of sources of criminal law, features of criminal law in the constitutional and international legal aspects, the importance of judicial practice (including the Supreme Court of Ukraine) for the progressive development of criminal law.

Teaching strategies: 1) lecture - a detailed theoretical report on the sources of criminal law; 2) discussion - an effective argumentation of problematic aspects of the impact of the Constitution of Ukraine and international law concerning the criminal law of Ukraine; 3) case study - consideration of important judgement of the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court, identification of aspects of the impact of these decisions towards the criminal law of Ukraine; 4) problem solving - assessment of hypothetical law enforcement situations in terms of the rules of criminal law; 5) independent work – individual study mastering of the recommended literature.

The final score includes the sum of points obtained during the semester assessment (up to 40 points) and points obtained for the final test (up to 60 points). It consists of four components: 1) legal opinion on the prospects of appeal including the Law of Ukraine on Criminal Liability in the ECtHR and the CCU; 2) to make a review dissertation thesis related with the course; 3) analysis of judicial practice on the application of criminal law, considering active legislation ; 4) a conclusion on the completeness and correctness of the implementation of one of the provisions of international agreements binding to Ukraine, which has criminal and legal significance. Assessment is based on the results of the semester and consists of points based on the results of lectures and seminars.
