Learning outcomes
Students’ achievement of the following competencies, skills and abilities:
- to know current doctrinal and practical problems of the application of EU environmental law, the methodology and legal principles of an adaptation of the environmental legislation of Ukraine to EU legislation
- to know the legal mechanisms for the environmental safety, environmental protection and a rational use of natural resources under the EU legislation;
- to be able to apply legal mechanisms for the protection of environmental human rights in the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights on the protection of Ukrainian citizens’ rights;
- to be able to recognize and interpret environmental rules of law in the EU legislation, to forecast shortcomings and problems that may arise while implementing EU environmental law and adapting the national legislation of Ukraine to the EU environmental legislation.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students’ mastering the following knowledge and general competencies:
to know the basics of the theory of law, have the competencies acquired in the study of constitutional, administrative, international public, environmental, civil procedure, civil law.
to be able to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge of the interpretation, functioning and implementation of international norms at the national level; to individually solve practical tasks related to the protection of environmental human rights.
to have the skills of the synthesis, analysis, generalization and interpretation of legal norms and their legal assessment, and the comparative legal analysis.
Course content
Students acquire the knowledge on a genesis of the legal regulation of environmental relations within the European Union, the EU environmental legislation, legal ways to protect environmental rights of citizens in the Court of Justice of the European Union and the European Court of Human Rights, and the formation of students' practical skills to solve practical problems that arise in the process of adapting the Ukraine's environmental legislation to the EU legislation. Also, it provides not only the in-depth study of the current environmental legislation of Ukraine, but also its comparative legal analysis with the EU environmental legislation, the study of theoretical and legal sources, basic concepts and special environmental legal terminology in the field of the EU and Ukrainian environmental legislation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Considering the educational material content and learning objectives, the following traditional and innovative learning technologies are used in the teaching process:
- lectures on the study of scientific, legal, theoretical and practical principles of the formation and implementation of environmental law and the EU legislation;
- seminars, which provide a detailed examination of theoretical provisions of the discipline (by preparing theoretical questions and discussions) and practical skills are developed (using a comparative analysis of the EU and Ukrainian environmental legislation, programs to adapt the Ukrainian environmental legislation to the EU legislation), and gain skills of integrating the theoretical and legal knowledge to address law enforcement issues in various fields of professional activity.
Assessment methods and criteria
Assessment methods and criteria are chosen by the teacher who conducts seminars, within the number of points provided by the curriculum, namely: oral questioning from 2 to 4 points; a participation in a discussion – from 2 to 4 points; a report from 4 to 6 points; a scientific work from 6 to 10 points, testing (from a set of statements to choose the right ones) from 4 to 6 points; two modal tests from 3 to 5 points (total – from 6 to 10 points).
The final assessment – a written exam. The final score for the discipline may not be less than 60 points
