Learning outcomes
Such students’ academic achievements as: knowledge of concepts, systems of criminal law; normative-legal acts, basic criminal-legal concepts, structure and system of the General and Special part; patterns of qualification of criminal offenses; application of criminal law to qualify acts. Skills: to analyze the content of criminal law; correctly interpret criminal law, case law and research results; legally correct the results of the qualification of criminal offenses; operate with legal concepts and categories; give a criminal-legal description of certain types of criminal offenses. Communication: to have a good command of criminal law terminology; to acquire skills to work with scientific literature, analytical and statistical materials, legal acts; analyze legislation and case law; to produce a legal opinion on a criminal offence.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Effective study of courses including basic principles and institutions of the General and Special Parts of the Criminal Law of Ukraine; to have a good command of legal criminal terminology, concepts and categories; to analyze legal facts and criminal-legal activities arising in connection with them; analyze, interpret and correctly apply legal norms.
Course content
The course includes the main theoretical principles of modern science of criminal law and the practice of their application, as well as the main patterns and trends in the development of doctrine of criminal offense and punishment in Ukraine and abroad.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Teaching strategies: 1) lecture - a detailed theoretical report on the main theoretical provisions of the modern science of criminal law and the practice of their stagnation, as well as the main regulations and trends in the development of doctrines on criminal law enforcement and punishment in Ukraine and foreign countries. 2) practical studies - discussion of the main issues and problematic aspects of the General and Special part of the criminal law of Ukraine; 3) solving the case, the solution of which involves a criminal-legal understanding of a particular situation and justification of such assessment; 4) independent work – to study individual of certain cases of judicial practice, including the list of recommended reading.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final score includes the sum of points obtained during the semester assessment (up to 40 points) and points obtained for the final test (up to 60 points). Final score for exam consists of such components: the total of points obtained during the semester (up to 40 points) and points obtained for the written examination paper (up to 60 points). Types of ongoing evaluation: express survey, colloquium, report/ scientific work, testing, modular tests. The number of points is recorded in the group log. If a student is absent at a seminar due to valid excuse, he or she may catch-up the missed class passing an interview or testing. Under the result of such testing, points are awarded. Points are not awarded for missed classes with no official reason.
