Learning outcomes
5. To collect, organize and analyze information on cultural phenomena, events, historical and cultural processes. 6. To identify, verify and summarize information on various contexts of cultural practice, to determine the degree of their relevance using different sources, information, communication tools and visual technologies. 7. To understand the factors of cultural dynamics, the principles of periodization of cultural processes, their specific features and characteristics. 14. To conduct a public discussion and maintain a dialogue on Ukrainian culture with professionals and non-specialists. 16. To define, formulate and argue their own civic and professional position on topical social issues.
Form of study
Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before studying this course, students should know the main stages and characteristics of the historical and cultural process; basic cultural concepts and categories; basics of psychology, ethics, theoretical cultural studies; methodologies of cultural studies, including methods of philosophy of culture.
2. To be able to distinguish and analyze information about modern socio-cultural and political processes in Europe, the uniqueness of the process of social and cultural identification in modern Europe, problems and challenges facing European communities in the context of the crisis of multiculturalism policy, and apply the main terms, categories and classifications of cultural studies in order to identify and analyze the problems of cultural identity in the modern world.
3. To have basic skills of working with consolidated information, namely, to receive and analyze information from various sources and systematically integrate various information resources,
Course content
Part 1. Modern sociocultural processes in Europe: from multiculturalism to cultural fragmentation. The problem of cultural self-determination in the history of European culture. Philosophical and psychological theories of identity of the Modern age. The problem of identity in the globalized world: ethnic identity, national identity, cultural identity. Cultural identity in postmodern Europe. The politics of multiculturalism in the context of identity discourse: global and local contexts. Part 2. Cultural and psychological mechanisms of identification and self-identification. Socio-psychological and cultural dimensions of personality and individuality. Identification and self-identification in the process of enculturation of the individual. Externalization and internalization of cultural factors. The concept of "pattern". Image and style as a communicative characteristic of the individual. Interaction, identity and presentation in interpretive sociology.

3. Presentation of independent research (Identify the contradictions of cultural identities in modern Europe, predict their consequences/influences and provide a reasoned analysis of the existing contradictions of your own choice): 24 /32 points.
4. Final test in written: 12 / 20 points
