1. Before studying the discipline “Democracy: from theory to practice” students should know the structure and functions of the political system of society, its main institutions (state, political parties, public organizations, local governments, mass media), the laws of functioning of the system as a whole and its institutions, the main ideas and concepts of representatives of foreign and domestic history of political doctrines, the basics of sociology and psychology. 2. be able to navigate political processes, political life of specific states based on knowledge of the political system of society, its institutions, patterns of their functioning. 3. Possess basic skills of basic skills of scientific research and information management; critical attitude and forecasting of political events and phenomena; use of foreign language professional political information sources.

Philosophical foundations of democratic governance. Principles of democracy. Human rights. International conventions and covenants on human rights. Constitutionalism, liberal democracy and their development in Ukraine. Mechanisms of democracy in Ukraine. Characteristics of civil society. Civil society in democratic reforms in Eastern Europe. Challenges related to civil society. Citizenship and democracy. Types of citizens. Active citizens. Preparing for the presentation of student civic action projects. The control of knowledge is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the material learned, in particular, the assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1 - 1.3), which is 40% of the total grade and assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1-2.3); (communication 3.1-3.3); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1-4.3), which is 60% of the total grade.
