Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Before starting the course of modern (classical) logic, students should know the object and subject of the science of logic; basic forms of abstract thinking and
logical laws; methods of determining the truth of statements and features of logical methods used in the theoretical and cognitive activities of political scientists; logical bases of analysis of philosophical and political language. Rules for performing practical operations on concepts, statements, inferences;
logical methods of proof and refutation. 2. To be able to use logical terminology in order to determine the sphere of functioning of rational (abstract-logical) thinking; apply the laws and rules of logic in the construction and analysis of philosophical and specifically scientific texts, identify logical errors in texts that differ in content. 3. Possess elementary skills to identify the most typical cases of violations of the laws of logic found in documentary texts or public speeches.
Course content
The educational discipline introduces students to the theoretical foundations of logic about the procedure of correct, analytical, critical thinking; methods of its organization and laws, the observance of which ensures the formal correctness of intellectual operations and is a condition for their practical effectiveness.
Special attention is paid to the consideration of the classical logic of statements and its main logical laws. Types of logical relations are thoroughly considered
between formulas. The axiomatic calculus of the logic of statements is explained. The specificity of predicate logic is clarified.

Assessment methods and criteria
At seminar classes (oral reports, additions and participation in discussions at seminars), the level of knowledge and the completeness of the disclosure of the issue in oral reports are subject to assessment; activity in discussing issues and argumentation of one's own position in discussions; use of additional sources when preparing a report; the ability to carry out a critical analysis of ideas and statements presented for discussion. The criteria for evaluating independent work (presentation of independent research, eview of sources with analytical commentary) are the completeness of the disclosure of the problem; integrity, systematicity, logical sequence, ability to formulate conclusions; the presence of an independent, scientifically based commentary (with reference to the main and additional literature for the course), the formulation of an opinion using professional terminology, compliance with the deadlines set for the performance of independent works
