PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of mastery of national and foreign languages to perform written and spoken communication, namely in the situations of professional and academic communication; to present the results of their studies in these national and foreign languages. PLO 6. To use knowledge on expressive, emotive, logical language means and speech techniques in order to achieve an intended pragmatic result and organize successful communication. PLO 13. To explain the essence of both specific linguistic issues and one’s point of view and its justification to experts and laypeople in an accessible and argumentative manner, particularly to individuals who are studying. PLO 14. To create, analyze, and edit texts of various genres and styles. PLO 18. To present the results of one’s research to the academic community in academic publications or presentations at conferences, round tables, seminars, etc.

Full-time form

- acquisition of the English language at a level not lower than B2; - mastering the basic methods of searching and analyzing scientific information; - availability of critical thinking skills; - knowledge of the basics of discourse theory and text linguistics; - text editing skills.

The course "Academic English" is designed to help students deeply understand the peculiarities of English-language scientific discourse and its main genres; to effectively use the English language to obtain and distribute professional information; annotate and abstract English-language literature by specialty, successfully present the results of one's own scientific research in English in oral and written forms (theses, abstracts, articles, etc.) in accordance with modern requirements for the English scientific language.

Learning activities: practical classes, independent work. Teaching methods: communicative method, heuristic method, educational discussion, conversation, performance of oral and written tasks.

Current assessment: oral responses, written responses, test, annotation. The final assessment is an exam. Evaluation criteria for each form of control are given in the course program.
