Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To analyze, compare and classify various schools and approaches of Linguistics. PLO 11. To perform a scholarly analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it considering efficient methodological principles, formulate summarizations based on the individually processed data. PLO 13. To explain the essence of specific linguistic issues and one’s own point of view and its justification to the experts and laypeople in an accessible and argumentative manner, in particular to individuals who are studying. PLO 15. To choose the optimal research approaches and methods of analysis for the specific linguistic and literary material.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To have the basic skills of language analysis and interpretation at all levels of its structure - phonetic, morphological, lexicological, phraseological, syntactic, stylistic, taking into account the view of language as the most important means of human communication, an indispensable sign of ethnicity and nation.
Course content
The discipline is designed to acquaint students with the basics of general linguistic knowledge, the principles of language theory, the most important methods and techniques of researching such a multifaceted phenomenon as language. The introductory nature of the course requires actualization of attention to three complementary components: language theory; methods and techniques of linguistic research; history of linguistic science. The "General Linguistics" course is based in its foundations on scientific research principles, general linguistics and linguodidactic beliefs and priorities, and also takes into account in its sociolinguistic part significant changes of a social and worldview nature that have occurred in recent years in Ukraine as a democratic state.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of teaching : lectures, independent work. Teaching methods: explanation of new material, conversation, independent work with scientific and educational literature, active listening, test-control of mastery of linguistic terminology, analysis of linguistic material, creative essay, interactive methods (work in pairs, small groups, games, etc.).
Assessment methods and criteria
Oral answer, participation in the discussion, independent work (exercises and tasks), essays, current tests, modular tests, exam. For evaluation criteria of each type of tasks, see in the work program of the academic discipline.
