Course content
The discipline discipline introduces students to the major characteristics of poetics and the main trends in development of the British novel of the late 20th–early 21st centuries – a period in which genre boundaries, and the vertical hierarchies of “high” and “low” culture, have been eroded, and a plethora of hybrid/fusion forms has emerged. Various genre modifications of the latest British novel appear as a result of the interaction of literature with other types of contemporary art and science. The course examines a historical, psychological, women, mystical, detective prose – novels by leading contemporary English-language authors, awarded both the largest literary prizes and the highest ratings of readership.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The modes of the course delivery encompass lectures, seminars and self-study, which presuppose such activities as oral answers to the questions/discussions and written tests. The teaching methods include explanations, illustrations, heuristics and research, as well as active methods, which help engage students in the educational process and unlock their scientific and creative potential.
Assessment methods and criteria
The form of summative assessment is a pass/fail grade. The pass grade is given if students score 60–100 points for their work throughout the semester, which does not presuppose any additional assessment. The students who score less than 60 points are required to do the missing assignments, which may be assessed through written tests, oral quizzes or individual written tasks. Formative assessment incorporates students’ results for all types of learning activities, incl. self-study.
