PLO 19.1. To know the trends in the functioning of the English language in the modern world, in the media, in virtual space, features of regional and social variation of the English language. PLO 20.1. To know the theoretical foundations of modern linguistics, research methods, features of linguistic analysis. PLO 21.1. To know the extralingual factors influencing the functioning of modern English and the development of modern communication. PLO 22.1. To know peculiarities of the use of English in various fields of professional activity, in interpersonal, intercultural and international communication. PLO 23.1., 25.1 - 27.1. Full-time form

Knowledge of the basic linguistic disciplines ('General Linguistics', 'Theoretical Phonetics', 'Lexicology', 'Theoretical Grammar', 'Stylistics'), ability to conduct linguistic analysis.

The course highlights major issues of discourse analysis, schools of discourse analysis, Critical Discourse Studies, outstanding scholars, the research of visualizing, creolization of virtual communication, diversity of genres in modern discourse, classification of modern discourse; political, advertising, legal, business discourse, Neuro-linguistic programming and other discourse types. Particular attention is devotes to semiotic characteristics of modern discourse, its heterogeneity and multimodality. Students are supposed to know major terms of linguistic analysis, use of English and functioning of English in different discourse types, to carry out discourse analysis; to generate multimodal and multisemiotic hypertext; to conduct linguistic analysis pertinent to discourse analysis.

Education during the semester: lectures, seminars, analytical multimedia presentations, independent work, test, exam

Assessment during the semester: • maximum during the semester– 60 points, • analytical multimedia presentations: LO 1.1–1.2, 2.1–2.2, 3.1-3.2 – 60 points • maximum for the exam – 40 points, • assessment of LO 1.1–3.2 Exam includes test on discouse theory; discourse and linguistic analysis of communication fragments; multimodal and multisemiotic analysis of video.
