Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To demonstrate an adequate level of national and foreign languages (English) mastery to perform written and spoken communication, namely in situations of professional and scientific communication; to present the results of their studies in the national and foreign languages (English). PLO 3. To implement modern methods and techniques, namely informational, in order to perform a successful and effective professional activity and guarantee the quality of research in an applied linguistics field. PLO 4. To assess and analyze critically the vital social, individual, and professional issues and offer tactics of their solution, in difficult and unpredictable conditions, which requires the application of new approaches and forecasting. Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. To successfully accomplish the following courses: Translation Theory, Fundamentals of Editing, and English-Ukrainian Translation. 2. To have knowledge in theoretical bases of general linguistics, translation studies, English and Ukrainian grammar, and orthography; and to have a C1-B2 level of proficiency in English. 3. To know techniques and methods of traditional linguistic analysis of units of each level of English and Ukrainian languages’ organization, to have basic skills in linguistic phenomena’s mathematical and computer modeling.
Course content
Considering the act of translation as one of the types of interlingual and intercultural communication and as an act of creating a text, communicatively equal to the original one, the course English-Ukrainian Translation and Editing is aimed to help students to develop translational, cognitive, communicative, linguistic, editing and sociocultural competences, as well as an understanding of peculiarities of an interpreter’s work when it comes to overcoming challenges in scientific and educational, and pragmatic aspects on lexical, grammatical and stylistic levels. Students will have an opportunity to practically improve their skills in performing translation of texts, created to serve in different fields of human activities, in written and spoken form as well as extend their knowledge and improve their skills in the editing of texts of different functional styles and genres, which is a prerequisite to being able to perform an own high-quality translation, using online services and other sources. The discipline is one of the mandatory components (Part 2) of a complex multi-semester discipline “Bilateral translation and editing”. It summarises knowledge obtained during accomplishing previous courses and is a base for learning the next courses in computational linguistics and translation.

Forms of classes: practical learning, independent learning.
Assessment methods and criteria
Types of work: Answer in a practical lesson; Translate a text in written form with editing; Test; Pass the lexical minimum; Written module test. The final semester grade consists of points obtained for executing the indicated learning kinds and forms, as well as points obtained for the exam. With a 100-point assessment system used, points that form the final semester grade are distributed in the following way: 60 points (60%) for the work throughout the semester and 40 points (40%) for the exam.
