Learning outcomes
PLO 2. To have deep knowledge of the official (Ukrainian) and foreign languages for the written and oral communication purposes, professional and scientific communication in particular; to present research results in the official (Ukrainian) and foreign languages. PLO 6. To apply knowledge of expressive, emotional and logical linguistic means, and speech techniques in order to achieve planned pragmatic results and establish successful communication. PLO 10. To collect and pecializat linguistic, literary and folklore facts, to interpret and translate texts of different styles and genres (depending on the specialization elected). PLO 11. To carry out the scientific analysis of linguistic, speech and literary material, to interpret and structure it according to the relevant methodological principles, to generalise information on the basis of independently processed data. PLO 14. To create, analyse and edit texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
To speak English at the B2 level, to have developed communicative competence as part of linguistic, sociocultural and pragmatic competences, to know the technology of translation from English into Ukrainian. Know the main functions, types, structure and participants of the communication process; functional styles and genres of English speech. To be able to perceive, select and critically interpret information from English-language sources; decode the speaker's intentions by analyzing communicative strategies in oral and written speech; to create oral and written texts in compliance with the norms of the speech genre; to perform and present educational projects and work in a project group.
Course content
The course is designed to provide graduates of the specialty with a high level of the English language proficiency (C1-C2), which will allow them to perform their professional duties as philologists, teachers and translators; to improve the communicative and translation competence of students in the field of academic communication in English; to systematize students' knowledge of the peculiarities of English-language academic discourse and communicative strategies for its implementation in oral, written forms and with the help of translation; develop communication skills and application of communication/translation strategies during communication and/or translation in the field of academic communication.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course provides for the following forms of training organization: practical classes and unsupervised work. The main types of work and, accordingly, the objects of semester control are: classwork, test, essay, group/individual project, modular control work. A student can score a maximum of 80 points for performing the prescribed types of work. The discipline ends with a credit.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral testing, written assignments, essays, modular test papers, and final test paper (max. 100 points, min. 60 points). The credit point is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
