Learning outcomes
PLO 9. Describe the theoretical foundations (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of Spanish linguistics and translation.
PLO 11. Carry out a scientific analysis of language, speech and literary material, interpret and structure it taking into account appropriate methodological principles, formulate generalizations based on independently processed data.
PLO 13. Explain the essence of specific philological issues, their own point of view on them and its justification both specialists and public, including students.
PLO 15. To choose optimal research approaches and methods of analysis for the specific language and literary material.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The course in Modern Discourse Studies is based on the previous theoretical knowledge of lexicology, stylistics, linguistics, textual linguistics, and theoretical grammar of the Spanish language. An additional requirement is mastery of the basic theoretical foundations of discourse studies.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to supplement the theoretical foundations of discourse studies with the acquired theoretical knowledge of lexicology, stylistics, and linguistics of the Spanish language text. The acquired knowledge will contribute to the formation of special philological knowledge and will allow students to engage in independent research work.
Annotation. The discipline "Modern Discourse Studies (Spanish)" is taught in the 4th semester of the full-time master's programme and belongs to the research component. The subject of the discipline is the study of the organisation and paradigm of discourses in the modern Spanish language and the identification of patterns of their functioning. The discipline is aimed at describing people's speech communication in specific and standard communication situations, taking into account social, cultural, cognitive, psychological and ethnic factors.

Assessment methods and criteria
During the semesters, after lectures on the relevant topics, practical classes are held, where assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and the form of control described in clause 7.1 of the WPED. The discipline ends with a semester test. The semester final grade is formed by the points received by the student in the process of performing the specified types and forms of training during the semester.
