PLO 7. Analyse, compare and classify different areas and scientific schools in linguistics. PLO 9. To describe the theoretical foundations (concepts, categories, principles, basic concepts, etc.) and applied aspects of Spanish linguistics and translation. PLO 13. Explain the essence of specific philological issues, their own point of view on them and its justification both specialists and public, including students. PLO 15. Choose the best research approaches and methods for analysing a particular linguistic or literary material. PLO 16. To use specialised conceptual knowledge in the field of Spanish linguistics and translation to solve complex problems and problems that require updating and integrating knowledge, often in the face of incomplete/insufficient information and conflicting requirements.

1. Philological education, bachelor's degree (philological educational programmes). 2. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of basic linguistic courses (lexicology, stylistics, theoretical grammar, theoretical phonetics, general linguistics, communication theory) 3. Knowledge of methods of linguistic analysis, basic linguistic terms, concepts, theories and schools. 4. To be able to analyse linguistic data using linguistic terminology and knowledge of basic linguistic courses. 5. To possess the skills of linguistic analysis.

The course "Theory of the English Language" covers a wide range of issues from the history of the English language, its evolution to the current state of English as a global language, a language of intercultural communication, to the most promising areas of its research, namely sociolinguistics, ecolinguistics, corpus linguistics, experimental phonetics, linguistic landscape, multimodality and discourse analysis. Students are offered assignments for independent work that require analytical observations, linguistic research, and independent study of modern language data.

Presentations at seminars, participation in discussions, and individual assignments. Semester assessment: 1. Presentations at seminars 60 points (10 points per answer). The minimum number of points per semester is 36. Final assessment - Exam - 40 points. 1. Theoretical (10 points) 2. Multimodal analysis of media texts (10 points) 3. Discursive, multimodal, semiotic analysis of video (10 points)
