PLO 2. Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Know: program material on the topics provided by the curriculum; have basic knowledge of the theory of the English language (prosody, semantics, lexical-grammatical categories, word structure, idiomatics, functional styles, historical changes), its stylistic, ethno- and socio-cultural features, national and territorial variants, genres and registers of speech. 2. Be able to: analyze, compare, compare linguistic phenomena; analyze and comment on original English artistic and socio-political messages / texts; - carry out syntactic analysis of simple and complex sentences, lexical-grammatical, stylistic and rhetorical analysis of authentic texts of 3-4 pages; professionally operate linguistic terms to explain the analyzed linguistic phenomena; - correctly and appropriately use different types of sentences in your message; describe, reproduce in a logical or chronological sequence authentic speech, comment / interpret its main ideas / content.
Course content
The purpose of the academic discipline is to deepen theoretical knowledge of the English language, to form students' practical communication skills on everyday, socio-political and professional topics, skills of oral and written translation of socio-political and popular scientific texts from English into Ukrainian; broadening the worldview, acquiring linguistic and cultural knowledge, mastering communicative strategies as a means of successful work as a teacher and translator. Mandatory components of the complex discipline "The English" are the educational disciplines "English communicative strategies" and "English in academic and business discourse", which respectively consist of two parts: Part 1 "English communication strategies" (4 credits: 12 hours of practical classes, 108 hours of unsupervised work). Part 2. "English in academic and business discourse" (5 credits: 16 hours of practical classes, 134 hours of unsupervised work).

Knowledge control is carried out according to the ECTS system, which provides for a two-level assessment of the learned material, in particular, the assessment of theoretical training - learning outcomes (knowledge 1.1 - 1.4), which makes up 40% of the total assessment, and the assessment of practical training - learning outcomes (skills 2.1-2.3); (communication 3.1); (autonomy and responsibility 4.1-4.2), which is 60% of the total grade. Evaluation of the semester work is carried out in the following forms: oral response at the seminar class, additions, participation in the discussion, blitz survey, control work with open answers, preparation and defense of the presentation.
Assessment methods and criteria
The semester number of points is formed by the points received by the student in the process of learning the material from the entire educational course. The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom work (which includes the unsupervised work as well on processing theoretical material for classroom preparation: oral answers, additions, tests, presentation defense) and for independent work (presentation preparation). All types of work for the semester have as a result:In case of the mid-term control:- in the maximum dimension of 100 points,In case of the credit:- in the maximum dimension of 100 points,- a minimum of 60 points.In case of the exam:The final number of points for the discipline (maximum 100 points) is defined as the sum of points for systematic work during the semester, taking into account the final assessment (exam (minimum 24, maximum 40 points).
