Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student must successfully master the subject "Practical course of English " and have the following skills: ● selection, analysis and interpretation of the facts related to Regional Studies; ● communication on Regional Studies topics.
Course content
The course consists of two parts: the first part introduces students to the history, culture, politics, geography, as well as prominent figures of Great Britain, the second - with the realia of the United States and the peculiarities of American English. The study of the discipline, firstly, allows to deepen, generalize and systematize the knowledge of students about the role and importance of English in the world and countries where it has the status of the state language, and secondly, prepares students for working as teachers of English. The purposes of the discipline are: - to learn English acquiring the background knowledge about the members of British / American society; - to learn culture loaded linguistic units; - to form students' English-language communicative competence as a set of knowledge, skills and abilities that provide effective intercultural communication.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning and teaching activities during the semester: • lectures and seminars (LO 1.1; LO 1.2; LO 2.1; LO 2.2; LO 2.3; LO 3; LO 4); • 2 presentations on each part (LO 1.1, LO 1.2, LO 2.1, LO 2.2, LO 2.3, LO 3, LO 4) – max 10 points for each ; 2 written tasks on each part (LO 1.1, LO 1.2, LO 2.1, LO 2.2, LO 2.3) – max 10 points for each ; • 2 final tests on each part (LO 1.1, LO 1.2, LO 2.1, LO 2.2, LO 2.3) – max 30 points for each.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment. Maximum number of points for the semester - 100 points (50 points for each thematic part). During the semester, assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and forms of control described in the paragraph 7.1 of the programme. The number of points depends on the completeness and correctness of the task done by a student. Final assessment - test. Final assessment is based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not provide for additional assessment activities. Students who score minimum 60 points receive "passed". Students who do not score the minimum number of points (60 ) receive "fail". Students who scored less than 60 points per semester must write essays on the topics provided, a test (if necessary), etc. to get “passed”.
