PLO 1. Сommunicate freely on professional issues with experts and non-experts in Ukrainian, Portuguese and English, in oral and in written form, use these languages to ensure effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 15. Carry out linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PLO 16. Know and understand basic concepts and theories in the field of translation studies, be able to apply them in professional activities. PLO 21. Interpret, abstract, annotate and adequately translate (from Portuguese, English and Ukrainian) oral and written texts of various styles and genres, except highly specialized ones. PLO 23. Identify and analyse the specific features of a communicative situation in translation and impact on translation decisions. PLO 24. Interpret consecutively from Portuguese and English and know the fundamentals of note taking. Complete list of program learning outcomes (PLO) is available in the program of the discipline.

Full-time form

Successful completion of the following disciplines: "Practical Portuguese Language Course" and the integrated discipline "Introduction to the Specialty". Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of translation studies, the concept of translation as a special type of intermediary activity, the factors relevant to its implementation and evaluation of the quality of its performance.

The discipline aims to provide knowledge and develop practical skills necessary to perform various types of translation and interpretation in the Portuguese-Ukrainian language pair and to ensure successful translation mediation depending on the needs of communicators and communication situations. This is a fundamental subject in the system of specialized training. It is a course of general translation and interpreting. It involves the acquisition of knowledge of basic and most pressing translation issues as a basis for choosing the optimal translation strategy, ways and techniques to effectively overcome translation difficulties in the Portuguese-Ukrainian language pair. The practical training is focused on solving various translation tasks and developing the ability to ensure adequate interlingual communication in various fields and subject areas. Translation from Portugueseinto Ukrainian is the leading direction; some types of translation also include training in translation from Ukrainian into Spanish.

Performing practical tasks in current classes, test: knowledge of interlanguage equivalents, test: oral consecutive paragraph and phrase translation

Students who have scored less than the critical-calculated minimum of 36 points are not allowed to take the exam. For students who do not reach the minimum grade level during the semester, a final semester test is conducted at the end of the semester or essays and laboratory work on course topics are evaluated. The maximum grade for additional forms of assessment may not exceed 40% of the maximum total score for the semester - 24 points. The amount of points for the semester is formed by Part 1: 30% of the amount of points for the 5th semester (maximum 30 points out of 100 points), and Part 2: 50% of the amount of points for the semester (maximum 30 points out of 60 points). The semester final grade is formed by the points obtained by the student during the semester (semesters - if there are 2 parts) and the points obtained at the exam, with the maximum distribution carried out according to the following algorithm: 60 points (60%) - semester control and 40 points (40%) - exam).
