Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non-experts in Ukrainian, Portuguese and English, in oral and in written form, use these languages to ensure effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of Portuguese and English, to describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques necessary to produce oral and written texts of different genres and styles in Ukrainian, Portuguese and English. PLO 14. Use Portuguese and English in oral and written form, in different genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of phonetics, grammar, speech culture of the Ukrainian and Portuguese languages, which were studied within the framework of the first year of study at the university, in particular at the courses Practical course of the first foreign language, Introduction to linguistics.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to develop the linguistic competence of philologists-translators for whom Portuguese is the first working language. The discipline is a profile and is one of the mandatory components of the educational and professional program. It involves the development of pronunciation, oral and written communication skills by the end of the teaching discipline, understanding without a dictionary adapted literary and socio-political literature, reading with a dictionary original texts of medium difficulty, the ability to listen to adapted texts and dialogues within the studied topics.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities during the semesters: • mastering lexical and grammatical topics, performing exercises and tasks for them; • reading texts, listening; • discussions on a given topic; • answer in practical classes; • presentations; • tasks that are performed in the process of independent training.
Assessment methods and criteria
The discipline ends with an exam. The minimum grade for the semester is 36 points, the maximum is 60 points; the minimum grade for the exam is 24 points, the maximum is 40 points: • oral answer – 10/15 points; • performance of written tasks 10/15 points; • participation in discussions 5/10 points; • addition of 3/5 points; • presentation 8/ 15 points.
