Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Fluently communicate on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in the state and foreign (English) languages orally and in writing; use them to organize effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 8. Know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as the art of words, and the history of the English language and apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of the English language; describe the sociolingual situation. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies, and techniques of creating oral and written texts of various genres and styles in the state and foreign (English) languages. PLO 14. Use the English language in oral and written form, in various genres and style varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral)

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The student should know basic linguistic terms; principles of analysis of linguistic material; features of semantics, and functioning of units of all levels of English, lexical and grammatical material provided by the foreign language curriculum in secondary school. In addition, the student should be able to apply linguistic tools in practice; have elementary skills in selecting, analyzing, and interpreting linguistic facts; communicate on linguistic topics; apply the acquired knowledge and skills in simulated communicative situations.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline "The English Language and Translation" is the formation of English communicative competence essential for effective intercultural communication, deepening students' practical knowledge in phonetics, vocabulary, and grammar; to acquaintance with the ways of transferring the meanings of linguistic units of the source language into the target language based on in-depth knowledge of English in all its aspects, deepening the linguistic and linguistic and cultural erudition of students. The training is based on fundamental principles of the communicative approach to foreign language learning with authentic materials and modelling of real communicative situations.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Training activities throughout the semester: - tasks completed in the process of individual work; - intermediate control - written assignments; - answers during practical classes; - projects, presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: The semester number of points is formed by the points scored by the student in mastering the material on all course topics and completing individual tasks and group activities. - in the maximum dimension - 60 points, - in the minimum dimension - 36 points. The final assessment in the third semester is conducted as an exam. The maximum number of points in the exam is 40 points, and the minimum number of points (positive mark) added to the semester - is 24 points. The total number of points in the discipline is a maximum of 100 points.
