Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Сommunicate freely on professional issues with experts and non-experts in Ukrainian, Portuguese and English, in oral and in written form, use these languages to ensure effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 15. Carry out linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of various styles and genres. PLO 16. Know and understand basic concepts and theories in the field of translation studies, be able to apply them in professional activities. PLO 21. Interpret, abstract, annotate and adequately translate (from Portuguese, English and Ukrainian) oral and written texts of various styles and genres, except highly specialized ones. PLO 23. Identify and analyse the specific features of a communicative situation in translation and impact on translation decisions. PLO 24. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of the following disciplines: "Practical Course of the Portuguese Language" and the integrated discipline "Introduction to the Specialty". Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of translation studies, the concept of translation as a special type of intermediary activity, the factors relevant to its implementation and evaluation of the quality of its performance.
Course content
The discipline aims to provide knowledge and develop practical skills necessary to perform various types of translation and interpretation in the Portuguese-Ukrainian language pair and to ensure successful translation mediation depending on the needs of communicators and communication situations. This is a fundamental subject in the system of specialized training. It is a course of general translation and interpreting. It involves the acquisition of knowledge of basic and most pressing translation issues as a basis for choosing the optimal translation strategy, ways and techniques to effectively overcome translation difficulties in the Portuguese-Ukrainian language pair. The practical training is focused on solving various translation tasks and developing the ability to ensure adequate interlingual communication in various fields and subject areas. Translation from Portugueseinto Ukrainian is the leading direction; some types of translation also include training in translation from Ukrainian into Portuguese.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Practical assignments, written translation of texts, writing annotations in Portuguese and Ukrainian, abstracting texts in the original language, surveys, and tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, the assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and forms of control described in clause 7.1 of the Program of the discipline. The semester ends with a test. The grade is based on the results of the student's work throughout the semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Students who have scored a minimum positive score of 60 points receive "passed". Students who do not score the minimum positive score of 60 points receive a "fail" grade. Students who have scored less than 60 points in total during the semester must pass the test by completing the material on the topics for which they have a debt in the form of writing independent works, translations or, if necessary, writing a test.
