Learning outcomes
PLO 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with experts and non-experts in Ukrainian, Portuguese and English, in oral and in written form, use these languages to ensure effective cross-cultural communication. PLO 9. Characterize dialect and social varieties of Portuguese and English, to describe the sociolinguistic situation. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques necessary to produce oral and written texts of different genres and styles in Ukrainian, Portuguese and English. PLO 14. Use Portuguese and English in oral and written form, in different genre-stylistic varieties and registers of communication (official, unofficial, neutral), to solve communicative tasks in everyday, social, educational, professional, scientific spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful completion of a general education course in secondary school. Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of phonetics, grammar, culture of speech of the Ukrainian language and a foreign language studied within the school curriculum.
Course content
The discipline aims to develop the language competence of philologists and translators for whom Portuguese is the first working language. The discipline is a specialized one and is one of the mandatory components of the educational and professional program. By the end of the course, students are expected to develop solid pronunciation, oral and written skills, understand adapted fiction and socio-political literature without a dictionary, read original texts of medium complexity with a dictionary, and be able to listen to adapted texts and dialogues within the studied topics. Teaching is based on a combination of traditional and communicative methods.

Practical classes, individual work
Assessment methods and criteria
During the semester, practical classes are held, where the assessment is carried out in accordance with the types of work and the form of control described in clause 7.1 of the Program of the discipline. In the 1st and 2nd semesters, the course ends with an exam. The semester final grade is formed by the points obtained by the student in the process of performing the types and forms of training provided by the program and obtained at the exam. Maximum distribution: 60 points (60%) - semester control and 40 points (40%) - exam. Students who have gained a total of less than the critical-calculated minimum (36 points) during the semester are not allowed to take the exam. To be admitted to the exam, such students must pass 50% of the written assignments for the semester, as well as complete a test that did not score the minimum number of points.
