PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyze and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 6. Use information and communication technologies to solve complex specialized tasks and issues of professional activity. PLO 7. To analyse compare and classify various directions and schools in linguistics. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 21. Interpret, abstract, annotate and adequately translate (from French, English and Ukrainian) oral and written texts of various styles and genres, except for highly specialised ones.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Prior to taking this course, students should have the skills of translation from French, as well as know the basic linguistic and translation concepts, be fluent in the terminology of word structure and its categories, know the basic provisions of F. de Saussure's theory of the linguistic sign, basic linguistic concepts; principles of language material analysis; features of semantics, structure and functioning of units of all levels of French and Ukrainian; basics of communication theory; be able to apply linguistic tools to practice. the necessary material for homework. Possess elementary skills of selection, analysis and interpretation of linguistic facts; have skills of communication on linguistic topics.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to study the word as the central unit of language in terms of its structural, word-formation and semantic characteristics, as well as the general features of the vocabulary of the French language in comparison with the Ukrainian language, the ability to conduct a comparative analysis of the vocabulary of the two languages in terms of coincidences and discrepancies in order to avoid interlingual interference and "false friends of the translator".
