Learning outcomes
PLO 1 Communicate fluently in English on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists, use English for the organization of effective intercultural communication. PLO 2 Work effectively with information: select necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic bases, critically analyze, interpret, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 4 Understand the fundamental principles of human existence, nature, society.PLO 8 Know and understand the language system, general characteristics of literature as the art of words, history of the Ukrainian language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in the professional activity. Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before this course, students are expected to have the following:
1) Knowledge of basic concepts of syntax in modern Ukrainian language in accordance with the secondary school program.
2) Proficiency in the methods of analyzing linguistic units at the sentence level (phoneme, morpheme, and word).
3) The ability to model syntactic structures based on relationships and connections between words.
Course content
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic principles and concepts of Ukrainian syntax, traditional and modern views on the structural-semantic nature of the sentence; to develop skills in applying acquired knowledge in practice, conducting syntactic analysis of simple and complex sentences. The educational discipline "Modern Ukrainian Language. Syntax" is a part of the complex discipline "Modern Ukrainian Language" for the training of bachelors under the educational program "Literary Creativity, Ukrainian Language and Literature, and English Language". The discipline covers the following content blocks: 1. Basic concepts of Ukrainian syntax. 2. Phrase as a syntactic unit. Types of phrases. 3. Sentence as a syntactic unit. Simple compound sentence, its types. Simple sentence and its types. 4. Simple complex sentence. Structural and semantic complication of a simple sentence. 5. Compound sentence. Typology of compound sentences. 6. Complex-compound sentences (classification principles, structural-semantic characteristics). 7. Complex sentences with undifferentiated syntactic connection (questions about conjunctionlessness, classification features). 8. Complex non-elementary sentences (syntactic analysis).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
"Educational activities throughout the semester include:
- tasks performed during independent work;
- answers during seminars;
- creative tasks;
- involvement in discussions;
- test writing;
- completion of individual control work.

Assessment methods and criteria
The final grade for the semester is determined by the points or classroom activities, which combine both the synthesis of theoretical material and independent preparation for class. This includes homework, oral responses during seminar sessions (up to a maximum of 3 points for each of the 7 sessions), supplementary tasks (up to a maximum of 2 points for each of the 6 sessions), test writing (up to a maximum of 5 points for each of the 3 tests), and completion of a final exam (up to a maximum of 12 points). All types of assignments throughout the semester add up to:
• a maximum of 100 points,
• a minimum of 60 points.
The final assessment: examination.
