Learning outcomes
PLO 2 Work effectively with information: select necessary information from various sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic bases, critically analyze, interpret, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 5 Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religions, supporters of different political views, etc. PLO 8 Know and understand the language system, general characteristics of literature as the art of words, history of the Ukrainian language and literature, and be able to apply this knowledge in the professional activity. PLO 12 Analyze language units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and the processes that cause them. PLO 15 Carry out linguistic and literary analysis of the texts of various styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
1) knowledge at the level of the elementary school program of the theoretical foundations of the professional discipline - general linguistic concepts, the history of Ukrainian and foreign literature; 2) possession of basic skills and translation skills from a foreign language into Ukrainian, orientation in the Ukrainian and world historical-literary process.
Course content
The aim of the course is to acquire general linguistic knowledge based on the Latin language, practical assimilation of the basics of its normative grammar, memorization of the necessary lexical minimum, which will allow a better understanding of the grammatical and lexical structure of the Ukrainian and English languages, the mastery of winged Latin expressions and the specifics of their use in Ukrainian and foreign fiction, the ability to read and translate easy Latin texts. The course consists of two modules. The first one covers information related to developing the ability to read correctly, mastering the rules of pronunciation and emphasis, acquiring skills for working with a dictionary, and mastering the technique of translating simple sentences. Grammar material - nouns of the 1st-2nd declension, adjectives of the 1st-2nd declension, system of inflection of verbs, pronoun, preposition. The second covers the following grammar material: 3rd-declension nouns, 4th-declension nouns, 5th-declension nouns, 3rd-declension adjectives, degrees of comparison of adjectives, numerals, perfect system. Acquisition of sentence translation skills. Throughout the course - learning of Latin catch phrases with a historical and literary comments.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Scheduled educational activities: oral answers, comments, participation in discussions, open-answer tests, creative tasks (essays, reader reviews), final test. Teaching methods: practical classes, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Final control: a credit. Throughout the semester, assessment is based on types of work and control forms. The credit is awarded based on the student's performance throughout the semester and does not involve additional evaluation measures. Students, who score a minimum passing grade of 60, receive a "pass". Students, who do not achieve the minimum passing score of 60, receive a "fail". Students,who accumulate a total of fewer than 60 points during the semester, should submit material on topics, where they have fallen behind by writing independent papers, essays, or, if necessary, taking a test. Passed - 60-100 Fail - 0-59.
