PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian and English. PLO 23 Make, edit and translate written and oral texts of political or business discourse (Ukrainian and English).

Full-time form

Successful completion of the following courses: Practical English, Introduction to Linguistics, Introduction to Translation Studies, Linguistic Country Studies; Knowledge of theoretical basics of general linguistics, understanding of lexical, grammar, and stylistic structures of the state and English languages in professional aspects; Knowledge of the state language (not lower than C2 level) and the English language (not lower than B2 level).

The purpose of the discipline is to deepen students’ knowledge of the English language in the sphere of business communication and to develop their skills in creating written and oral business texts of different genres. The discipline “Creation of English Business Text” is the elective discipline of the educational program “The Ukrainian and English Languages: Translation and Editing”. The discipline is aimed at acquainting students with genres of English business texts, teaching them to create their own business texts, deepening their knowledge of business English, developing their skills in translating and summarizing Ukrainian and English business texts into English and Ukrainian, reading and understanding by ear English business texts, as well as doing lexical, grammar, and stylistic analysis of English business texts of different genres.

To read and listen to English business texts determined by theme blocks. To involve students in participation in various types of oral business communication in the form of presentations, negotiations, reports, interviews, etc. To write business letters, reports, and other business documents. To carry out interpreting and translation in the English ↔ Ukrainian direction in the sphere of business communication.

During the semester the following types of class work get assessed: oral and written practical tasks, individual and group projects within theme parts of the syllabus. After completing relevant topics students write tests. At the end of the semester students take a pass/fail exam. The pass/fail exam includes all the points a student has got during the semester and doesn’t presuppose any additional types of assessment. To get the mark “Passed” a student must get from 60 to 100 points during the semester. The students who have got less than 60 points receive the mark “Failed”. To be allowed to take the exam these students must carry out additional types of work. For separate types of work during the semester a student can get from 0,3 up to 10 points. The maximum score for the final test is 20 points.
