Students should successfully master the courses Introduction to Linguistics, Socio-Political Studies, Ukraine in the Context of World History, Lexicology and Phraseology; to know the theoretical foundations of linguistics, vocabulary and phonetics of the modern Ukrainian language; to be able to analytically comment on language information; to master the methodology of lexical and phonetic analysis, principles of collection, accumulation and processing of linguistic information.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to acquaint students with the basics of ethnolinguistics (with elements of linguistic folkloristics and ethnolinguistics) as an in-depth theoretically grounded and problematically formulated version of linguo-Ukrainian studies and, partially, linguo-local studies of foreign countries. The course is aimed at forming clear ideas about the specifics and ways of forming lexical, phonetic and other features of the Ukrainian language in the context of other languages - in genealogical, typological and areal aspects. Students work with scientific and popular scientific literature on various aspects of Ukrainian ethnolinguistics, the encyclopedic dictionary of V.V. Zhaivoronka "Signs of Ukrainian ethnoculture", etymological dictionaries of the Ukrainian and English languages
