PLO 2. Process information effectively: collect relevant information from a variety of sources, including professional literature and electronic databases, critically analyse and interpret it, organize, classify and systematize it. PLO 7. Understand the major issues of philology and approaches to solving those using relevant methods and innovative approaches. PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English language and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Full-time form

Students should successfully master the courses Introduction to Linguistics, Old Slavic Language, Lexicology and Phraseology; to know the theoretical foundations of general linguistics, the comparative-historical method; to possess the techniques and methods of comparative-historical linguistic analysis of units of all levels of the organization of the Old Slavic language system.

Students study the causes, mechanisms and consequences of specific changes in all subsystems of the Ukrainian language that occurred in accordance with internal laws or external factors. The most important stages of the formation of the Ukrainian literary language are also considered. In the first part of "Introduction. Phonetics and phonology" outlines the subject, tasks and significance of the discipline. Here we consider: patterns of development of the language system in diachrony; connections of the history of language with other social and humanitarian sciences, linguistic and historical sources of study, periodization. The history of phonetic-phonological and grammatical systems (in the second part) is studied from the phenomena of the late Proto-Slavic period of the VI-VII centuries to the present state with an emphasis on the most important internal and external factors of its development, phenomena of analogy in the development of parts of speech, etc.

Verbal, visual, interactive and practical methods of learning: lecture, practical session, independent work. Educational activities during the semester: tasks performed in the process of independent work; answers in practical / seminar classes; analytical report, presentation; abstract; tests; control work.

• Semester assessment: The overall grade for the semester consists of points received for classroom and independent work: answer in a practical / seminar lesson - 4 points / 1 point; independent work (abstract, report, presentation, written work, tests) - 10 points / 1 point; written test - 2x10 points / 2x5 points; final test - 20 points / 10 points. The maximum number of points is 100 points; minimum - 60 points. • Final assessment: credit. The credit is issued based on the results of the student's work during the semester. Students who scored a total of less than 60 points during the semester must prepare material on the topics for which the debt arose, in the form of writing independent papers, essays, or, if necessary, write a control paper.
