PRN 1. Communicate freely on professional issues with specialists and non-specialists in the state and foreign languages orally and in writing, use them to organize effective intercultural communication. Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for first-year students who have successfully mastered the "Introduction to Linguistics" and "Introduction to Slavic Philology" courses in the first semester. The student should know: the content of the main concepts from the Slavic linguistic field and the corresponding terms for their designation; the structure of the modern Ukrainian language and other Slavic languages; units of the structural levels of Ukrainian and other Slavic languages and the functions of these units; be able to: express one's own thoughts about certain linguistic facts and phenomena; carry out phonetic, morphemic, morphological and syntactic analysis of units of the Ukrainian language; have basic skills of working with educational and methodological aids, searching for information in scientific sources recommended for study, analyzing and comparing linguistic phenomena, applying acquired knowledge in practic
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to acquaint students with the origin of the Old Slavic language, its phonetic-phonological, lexical, morphological, word-forming and syntactic systems in a comparative-historical aspect against the background of linguistic phenomena and processes of the Indo-European and Proto-Slavic periods with a projection on the relevant linguistic facts of modern words languages, primarily Ukrainian and Russian, as well as the development of skills and abilities to apply the acquired knowledge in the process of reading, commenting, translating and complex linguistic analysis of Old Slavic texts. The discipline consists of two parts: Part 1. Introduction. The phonetic-phonological system of the Old Slavic language and its projection on Indo-European and Proto-Slavic sound processes. Vocabulary of Old Slavic manuscripts. Part 2. The grammatical system of the Old Slavic language.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities during the semester: • tasks performed in the process of independent work; • participation in the work at the lecture, in particular, participation in the discussion; • writing an essay with a creative task.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semester assessment: • the maximum number of points during the semester is 60 points; • participation in the work at the lecture, in particular participation in the discussion: RN 1.1–3.1 – max. 2 points (28 points for 14 classes); • writing an essay with a creative task - max. 12 points; • modular control work - max. 20. Final assessment: exam
