Prerequisites and co-requisites
The knowledge of the general information about the historical and cultural context of the age, the qualificative features of the art of the Ancient Greece and Rome, formed from the subjects of "Foreign Literature" and/or "World History" in the school's main course. The ability to use the basic terminology and conceptual apparatus of the literary studies. The mastery of the basic skills of literary analysis and text interpretation.
Course content
The course acquaints students with the main phenomena of the oldest literary tradition in Europe. The course is aimed at building the integral notion of Ancient Greek and Roman literatures (as the basis for cultural and literary development of Europe). Cultural and historical analysis in the course is combined with the analysis of the defined literary tradition, and study of the key representatives of the stated literatures. Special attention is paid to the reception of this literary tradition in world arts and literature. Comparative analysis of both literatures is accentuated. The course is designed to develop general skills in literary critical analysis, as well as the ability to interpret the literary material of the age
Recommended or required reading and other learning resources/tools
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Educational activities include performing Google-tests on each topic, maintaining a mythological dictionary of terms and concepts, writing a creative work, and performing a final test. The work program of the academic discipline provides for lectures, as well as independent work by students.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final assessment mark for the course is formed by the sum of the marks of the current and final control. When is sum, the forms of the final control make up max 100/ min 60 points. Students who did not manage to score 60 points during the term have to work for the classes and topics they missed by writing independent individual works.
