Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To understand the main problems of Arabic philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches.
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Arabic language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 12. To analyze Arabic linguistic units, determine their interaction and characterize linguistic phenomena and processes that cause them.
PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of Arabic texts of various styles and genres.
PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the disciplines “The Arabic: basic level”, “The Arabic language: intermediate level”, “Linguistic and regional studies of the Arab East countries”, “Introduction to Arabic philology”; knowledge of the theoretical foundations of linguistics from the course "Basics of Linguistics".
Course content
The goal of the discipline is to form students' understanding of the Arabic linguistic tradition as a set of linguistic ideas, ideas, views and concepts that were transmitted in the medieval Arabic-speaking socio-cultural continuum from generation to generation through established channels of information and scientific knowledge; to contribute to an adequate understanding of Arabic linguistic conceptinos, as well as views that were borrowed from the Arabs by other peoples of the East. The discipline belongs to the block of disciplines of the student's free choice and has a theoretical direction.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of students involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral answers, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, final test paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not include additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
