Learning outcomes
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Arabic language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 13. To analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and Arabic fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process of Arab countries and Ukraine.
PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of Arabic texts of various styles and genres.
PLO 17. To collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them for solving complex problems in specialized fields of professional activity and/or education.

Successful mastering of disciplines: "The Arabic language: basic level", " The Arabic language: intermediate level"; "Oral and ancient Arabic literature", "Medieval Arabic literature".
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to acquaint future Arabic philologists with the peculiarities of the formation and development of medieval Arabic prose of the VIII-XVIII centuries; to teach students to analyze genre and stylistic features of literary works; to read and translate works of Arabic medieval prose. The discipline belongs to the block of disciplines of the student's free choice and has a theoretical direction.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Students’ self-study involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, precis, summaries.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral responses, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, term paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
