Learning outcomes
PLO 7. To understand the main problems of Arabic philology and approaches to their solution using appropriate methods and innovative approaches.
PLO 8. To know and understand the language system, the general properties of literature as an art of speech, the history of the Arabic language and literature, and to be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities.
PLO 13. To analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and Arabic fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process of Arab countries and Ukraine.
PLO 15. To carry out linguistic, literary and special philological analysis of Arabic texts of various styles and genres.
PLO 16. To know and understand the basic concepts, theories and concepts of the chosen philological specialization, to be able to apply it.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the disciplines “Lingual and regional studies of the Arab East countries ”, “Introduction to Arabic Philology”, “ Basics of literary studies (by regional direction)”; knowledge of phonetics, vocabulary and grammar of the modern Arabic language obtained from a practical course of the Arabic language at the basic level.
Course content
The aim of the discipline is to acquaint students with the literature of the pre-Islamic and early Islamic periods; to highlight the historical features of formation and development, periodization of this literature. Disciplinia consists of two parts. The first part examines the main sights and sources of ancient Arabic literature, genre forms of pre-Islamic qasida, Arabic metric, works of ancient Arab poets; in the second, the works of early Islamic panegyrists and some suras of the Koran, which is the first literary monument, are highlighted. The discipline is the second part of the complex discipline "History of Arabic Literature" and has a theoretical orientation.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Learning activities comprise interactive lectures and seminar classes. Self-study of students involves preparation for oral responses, reports with the analyses of scientific literature, research presentation, precis, summaries.
Assessment methods and criteria
Semestral assessment is based on the oral testing, written assignments,participation in discussions, reports and presentations – 36/60 points, modular test papers – 12/20 points, final test paper – 12/20 points. The credit is given based on the results of the student’s work throughout the entire semester and does not require additional assessment measures. Students who scored 60 points, the required minimum, receive “passed”. Students who failed to score 60 points, the required minimum, receive “failed”. Those students who scored totally less than 60 points during the semester period should complete a test paper in the items which he/she failed to pass. Final score 60-100 – passed; 0-59 – failed.
