Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of German language and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, German and English. PLO 12. Analyse language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and foreign fiction and oral folk art, determine their specificity and place in the literary process (according to the chosen specialization). PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and translation analysis of texts of different styles and genres. PLO 17. Collect, analyze, systematize and interpret the facts of language and speech and use them to solve complex problems and problems in specialized areas of professional activity and/or study.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
The program is designed for students who have studied the comprehensive academic discipline "History of Foreign Literature" during the first and second academic years and have the corresponding level of preparation, as well as have studied the "Practical Course of German Language". The student should know: basic literary terms; principles of literary analysis; characteristic features and works of key representatives of ancient and Western European literary traditions; have a proficiency in German language at a level not lower than B1/B2; be able to obtain necessary information from literary reference publications, engage in analytical reading of literary works in Ukrainian translation and in the original German language; maintain a reader's journal and a terminological dictionary; possess skills in academic research and working with literary studies, produce complex oral and written messages in Ukrainian and German.
Course content
The subject of the academic discipline includes the study of the main themes and characteristics of contemporary German literature from 1945 to the beginning of the 21st century, the formation of the modern literary market ("Literaturbetrieb"), and the peculiarities of problems and poetic features of leading periods and trends such as "Literature of Ruins," Group 47, "New Subjectivity," Postmodernism, and others. The course familiarizes students with the works of prominent German, Austrian, and Swiss writers. The discipline contributes to the understanding of key concepts related to contemporary German-language literature (main directions, genres, styles, ideological-artistic concepts), the peculiarities of language in literary works, the acquisition of skills in contemporary textual analysis, and the improvement of German language proficiency. The teaching is conducted through lectures, seminars, and independent student work. An intermediate assessment is planned at the end of the semester.
