Successful completion of the course "Introduction to Linguistics" and knowledge of German at level A2 and above.
Course content
The course is fundamental for the professional training of translators and aims to familiarize students with the basic principles of translation studies and provide them with the knowledge and competencies necessary for becoming a translator. The lecture component focuses on establishing a theoretical foundation for the subsequent acquisition of practical skills and abilities in the field of translation, including an introduction to different types, methods, and techniques of translation. The seminar sessions contribute to the development of initial skills in working with texts as a translator, fostering the ability to identify and analyze translation solutions.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course consists of 16 hours of lectures and 14 hours of seminar sessions. During the seminars, theoretical topics are discussed, students give presentations and deliver reports, and there is an analysis of translation solutions. Group work and tests may also be included. Additionally, students are expected to spend 30 hours on independent study, which involves preparing homework assignments, writing reports and presentations, and conducting comparative analysis of original texts and translations.
Assessment methods and criteria
Grading criteria for the course are as follows:
1. Oral responses, contributions, and participation in lectures and seminars: Minimum 17 / Maximum 30 points.
2. Module tests (2): Minimum 12 / Maximum 20 points.
3. Presentation: Minimum 7 / Maximum 10 points.
4. Exam:
- Written test: Maximum 25 points, consisting of 15 theoretical questions (1 point each) and 10 practical questions (1 point each).
- Oral component: Maximum 15 points, based on one theoretical question. Criteria include the completeness of the answer (8 points), relevant examples provided (4 points), and the completeness of the response to an additional question (3 points).
These grading criteria determine the evaluation of student performance in the course.
