Learning outcomes
PLO 8. Know and understand the system of language, the general properties of literature as the art of word, the history of English and the two studied Western European languages, and literature, be able to apply this knowledge in professional activities. PLO 10. Know the rules of standard language and be able to apply them in practice. PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, English and two other Western European languages. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 14. Use English and two other Western European languages in oral and written form, in different genre-style varieties and registers of communication (formal, informal, neutral), for solving communicative tasks in everyday, public, educational, professional and academic spheres of life.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students are to successfully complete the following courses: “A practical course or the English Language”, parts 1-4, and to know English (equal to or above B2 level); to be capable of communicating in English (in oral and written forms) adhering to various styles, genres and registers; to have basic skills of public speaking.
Course content
The present course is part of the general course of practical English. The programme of the present course has been elaborated in accordance with the new Educational programme and aims at 3rd year students. The course is aimed at the formation of the students’ ability to perceive real-life English oral speech, the expansion of their active vocabulary related to the topics covered by this programme, the broadening of their outlook, the development of the ability to participate in discussions and defend their opinion. The prevailing teaching method is the communicative method which aims at engaging students in all types of speech activities and boosting their creativity. Educational work with students is carried out in the form of practical classes. The form of final control in the 5th term is an exam.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Training activities during the semester: Dialogues / discussions, listening, presentations, tests in practical classes; writing essays and preparing for the above activities during individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
Term assessment: the maximum score during the semester is 60 points: Lexico-grammatical test: LO 1.1-1.2 – 20 p. Listening: LO 2.3, 2.4 – 8 p. Dialogues / Discussion: LO 1.1, LO 2.2, LO 3, LO 4 – 10 p. Presentation: LO1.1-1.2, LO2.2, LO4 – 12 p. Essay: LO1.1-1.2, LO1.3, LO4 – 10 p. The final assessment is conducted in the form of an exam: • the maximum score during the exam is 40 points, while the minimum score, which is added to the semester score is 24 points (60% of the maximum score); • such learning outcomes are assessed during the exam: LO 1.1-1.3; LO 3. • the exam is conducted in half oral half written form: 1) Written presentation of a grammar question. 2) Written linguistic analysis of a text on one of the topics covered during the semester and translation of its passage. 3) Interview on one of the lexical topics. Conditions for admission to the exam: Students who have scored a total of less than the critical minimum of 36 points are not allowed to take the exam.
