Learning outcomes
PLO 11. Know the principles, technologies and techniques of oral and written texts of different genres and styles creation in Ukrainian, English and two other Western European languages. PLO 12. Analyze language units, determine their interaction, and characterize linguistic phenomena and the underlying processes. PLO 13. Analyze and interpret works of Ukrainian and English fiction and oral folk art, to determine their peculiarities and place in the literary process. PLO 15. Perform linguistic, literary and specific philological analysis of texts of different styles and genres.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students should know the basic concepts from the theoretical and practical courses of English; be able to compare various linguistic elements, make generalizations; have basic skills of a lexical and stylistic analysis of texts in English.
Course content
The purpose of the course is the analysis of general regularities of creation and functioning of texts in the modern communicative environment, developing linguistic analysis skills and linguistic competence of students. The complex approach includes using the original English texts for practical classes. Their analysis will help students to better understand the specifics of the standards of textuality in various text types.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of studies organisation: oral answer, participation in discussions, test. Teaching methods: lecture, practical class, independent work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark for the course is formed as the sum of points of the current and final control. Forms of the current control include answers in practical classes (max 24/min 18), participation in discussions (max 12/min 6), tests (max 24/min 12), in total max 60/min 36 (it is not allowed to take an exam with fewer than 36 points). The form of the final control is the exam (max 40/min 24). To get a positive mark for the course an exam mark should be min 24.
