Learning outcomes
PLO 2. Work with information productively: select necessary information from different sources, in particular from professional literature and electronic database; make critical analysis and interpretation; organize, classify and systematize information. PLO 5. Cooperate with colleagues, representatives of other cultures and religious groups, supporters of different political views etc. PLO 9. Characterize dialectal and social varieties of the English language and two other western European languages, make description of socio-linguistic situations.

Prerequisites and co-requisites
Students should know English (equal to or above A2 level); be capable of communicating in English (in oral and written forms) adhering to various styles, genres and registers; have basic skills of selection, analysis and interpretation of ethnocultural facts; conversation on regional studies topics.
Course content
The course is aimed at shaping students’ regional studies competence for effective cross-cultural communication, along with developing students’ awareness of worldview and values of native speakers. The course consists of two parts: the first one gives an idea about linguistic and extra-linguistic cultural realia, terms and concepts in different spheres of life of Great Britain and the second part deals with the same aspects in the USA.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
The course is delivered with the help of such activities as oral reports and written tests. The teaching methods are lectures, seminars, creative and research projects, students’ individual work.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with a credit. Students’ performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for their work in classroom (oral reports, tests) and individual work. The minimum score for the term is 60 points, while the maximum score equals 100.
