Students improve their skills in analysing the artistic structure of works. The attention is paid on the ways the modernist authors experiment with this genre and make the narrative more psychological in accordance with the demands of the times. The focus is on the analysis of the narrative component and peculiarities of characters’ creation. The special attention is paid to the attempts of writers to comprehend the practice of modernism theoretically. Students get acquainted with representative examples of the Anglophone short story of the modernist era and improve their skills of comparative analysis. Students have the opportunity to work with texts in the original, analyse, interpret and discuss them in English. The course provides for the possibility of implementing students' individual educational trajectories by expanding individual reading, as well as preparing and presenting analyses of self-chosen short stories in the form of a scientific report.
