Prerequisites and co-requisites
Before the course of study students are expected to complete successfully the program’s previous literary disciplines; to demonstrate basic knowledge of literary terms and be competent in applying various methodologies of a literary analysis of text.
Course content
The discipline is aimed at introducing students to the major literary phenomena, reading the central literary texts, overviewing artistic movements and trends in Western Europe and the United States of the 2nd half of the 20th century. The course involves mastering various approaches to the analysis of a literary text and provides the future student teachers with professionally oriented competence.

Робочою програмою навчальної дисципліни передбачено проведення лекційних та семінарських занять, а також самостійну роботу студента. Форми навчання включають усні відповіді та групові дискусії на семінарських заняттях, індивідуальні завдання, доповіді у форматі презентацій у PowerPoint.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Assessment methods and criteria
The course ends with an exam. Students’ performance during the term is the sum of the points accumulated for their work in classroom (oral reports, group discussions at seminars) and individual work (individual tasks, PowerPoint presentations). The minimum score for the term is 36 points, while the maximum score equals 60. The minimum score for the exam is 24 and the maximum score is 40. If a student does not attain a minimum grade of 36 points, he/she is required to submit the assignments set for this course. The final evaluation of learning outcomes is carried out on a single 100-point scale. There is applied the scale of conformity with grades: Excellent: 90-100; Good: 75-89; Satisfactory: 60-74; Unsatisfactory: 0-59.
