Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of the courses Introduction to Literary Studies; History of Ancient Greek and Roman Literature; History of Western-European Literature of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance; History of Literature of the Ancient East; History of Literature of Western Europe and America of the 17th – 18th Centuries; History of Literature of Western Europe and America of the 19th Century.
2. Knowledge of the peculiarities of children's perception of fiction.
Course content
Students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge of the history of foreign literature for children; consolidate knowledge of basic categories and concepts of literary criticism; study the features of the artistic structure of the literary works for children, ways of their classical and modern interpretation, the specifics of the genre system of literature for children; study and compare its national variants and master the methods of making pupils get interested in this literature; get acquainted with its examples, as well as expand the scope of individual reading, prepare presentations of individual reading.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study consist of lectures, seminars, and students’ self-study.
Teaching methods include answers at the seminars, presentation projects of the individual reading, and a final test paper.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark for the course is formed as the sum of the points of the current and final control.
Formative assessment includes answers at seminars (max 39/min 26 points), presentation projects of the individual reading (max 9/min 4 points), and a final test paper (max 12/min 6 points). In total, in-process evaluations of academic progress during the semester a student can gain max 60/min 36 points.
Summative assessment is arranged in the form of the exam. The exam scores max 40/min 24 points. To be admitted to the exam a student must score min 36 points. To receive a positive mark in the discipline, the mark for the exam must be at least 24 points.
