Prerequisites and co-requisites
1. Successful mastering of the courses Introduction to Literary Studies; History of Foreign Literature (parts 1-5), Fundamentals of Genre Studies. 2. Knowledge of the peculiarities of children's perception of fiction.
Course content
Students get acquainted with the development of the fairy tale genre in Western Europe (French, German, Danish, Swedish, Italian, Estonian) and English-speaking countries (English, American, Australian) literature. Students acquire practical skills in analysing fairy tales and its subgenres. Special attention is paid to the ways of contemporary interpretation of works of this genre, as well as their therapeutic and creative potential. Students get acquainted with representative works, compare author's interpretations of classical plots, and master methodological techniques for attracting secondary school students' interest in co-creating and writing fairy tales. The course provides an opportunity to write a fairy tale and methodological recommendations for guiding students' literary creativity, as well as to prepare and present analyses of individual literary fairy tales.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study consist of lectures, seminars, and students’ self-study. Teaching methods include answers at the seminars, presentation projects of the individual reading, and a creative paper.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark for the course is formed as the sum of the points of the current and final control. Formative assessment includes answers at seminars (max 39/min 26 points), presentation projects of the individual reading (max 10/min 5 points), and a creative paper (max 11/min 5 points). In total, in-process evaluations of academic progress during the semester a student can gain max 60/min 36 points. Summative assessment is arranged in the form of the exam. The exam scores max 40/min 24 points. To be admitted to the exam a student must score min 36 points. To receive a positive mark in the discipline, the mark for the exam must be at least 24 points.
