Prerequisites and co-requisites
A student should assimilate such linguistic disciplines as: “Practical Course of English”, “Theoretical course of the English Language (Introduction to Specialty; History of the English Language, Theoretical Grammar of the English Language, Theoretical Phonetics of the English Language).” A student should know basic linguistic notions, concepts. A student should be able to select, analyze and interpret linguistic facts and phenomena, to discuss different linguistic topics.
Course content
The course is aimed at studying the word as a central unit of language in terms of its structural, word-forming and semantic characteristics, as well as general features of the vocabulary of the English language. The subject studies the place of lexicology among other linguistic disciplines, general word theory, word as a sign, semantic structure of the word, lexical and grammatical meaning, word formation as a way to replenish vocabulary, phraseology, stratification of English vocabulary and lexicography. linguistic research.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study consist of lectures, seminars and self-study, which aims to help students prepare for seminars. Teaching methods include tasks performed in the process of self-study, oral answers, and tests.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final evaluation takes the form of a credit. The grade is formed as the sum of all points scored during the semester for each type of activity (self-study - 30/18, oral answers 30/18, tests 40/24). Evaluation is based on a 100-point scale: 0-59 - failed; 60-100 - passed.
