Prerequisites and co-requisites
Successful mastering of the courses “Practical Course of the English Language” (1st term) and “Practical Course of the English Language” (2nd term). Level of the English language proficiency - B1. Students understand the basic content of clear normative speech on topics that are close and often used at work, at school, during leisure time, etc. They can solve most issues while staying or travelling in the countries whose language is being studied. They can simply and coherently express themselves on familiar topics or topics of personal interest. They can describe experiences, events, hopes, dreams and ambitions; provide brief explanations and evidence of views and plans.
Course content
The purpose of the discipline is to ensure the formation of students’ necessary communicative competence (and its components: language, speech and linguistic and sociocultural) in the spheres of everyday communication in oral and written forms and their achievement of the English language proficiency at B2 level. The course acquaints students with the observance of functional and stylistic norms of use of lexical and grammatical units of the synonymous series, language components of socio-cultural competence within a specific topic. Students learn to create written texts of different genres and styles.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods
Forms of study consist of practical classes and students’ self-study.
Teaching methods include work at the practical classes, preparing and presenting study projects, and writing module test papers.
Assessment methods and criteria
The final mark is formed as the sum of the points of the current and final control.
Formative assessment includes answers at practical classes (max 20/min 12 points), study projects (max 20/min 12 points), module test papers (max 20/min 12 points). In total, in-process evaluations of academic progress during the semester a student can gain max 60/min 36 points.
Summative assessment is arranged in the form of the exam. The exam card consists of a written test task (30 points (1 point for each correct answer): 15 for the grammatical part and 15 for the lexical part of the test task) and an oral presentation of the topic (10 points).
The exam scores max 40/min 24 points. To be admitted to the exam a student must score min 36 points. To receive a positive mark in the discipline, the mark for the exam must be at least 24 points.
